The file size of cropped images

How come the file size of a cropped image (in the file upload plugin) is so large? Example: I upload an image: Size 75 kb. Thumb: 15 kb. Crop: 470 kb.

We use the HTML5 Canvas element to crop, which uses the browser's encoder capability to convert to base64. Which we then base64_decode() once uploaded to the server. So it's basically down to the encoding in the browser.

Oh I see. Used Firefox. Chrome did a better compression and Edge even better.
