You can use placeholder in the group intro text or in the form introtext if you want to display above all tabs.
You can use the special one {edit/new} to avoid display an empty value on record creation.
If you mean in the tab label itself, you'll have to customize the template.

That would work above the tabs... placeholder could be a field value of the current record?

As far as the record already exists (editing/modifying an existing record), yes.
If it's a brand new one (add), placeholders won't display nothing as nothing is recorded yet.
So you can use this http://fabrikar.com/forums/index.php?wiki/placeholders/#new-some-text-edit-some-edit-text to show or not show the placeholder (or show some explanation in case of "new")
Or you have to customize the template of use some js to display "something".

Thank you! In the form intro so much space between Intro placement and tabs... but it works...
So placing in group intro does the trick... Right above first element displayed
