1. Hugh (cheesegrits) here. Thank you for all the good wishes. My back surgery was a success, post-op recovery is going well, and I'm getting stronger and feeling better every day. I hope to be getting back in the saddle and working support again over the next few days.
  2. IMPORTANT NOTE - we have made some changes in our github branch naming. The 'master' branch no longer exists, and is now called 'joomla25' (which is Fabrik 3.0). The 'joomla3' branch (which is Fabrik 3.2) remains unchanged. We have also removed all the other testing branches which had accuulated over the last few years. I have posted a thread in the Community forum for 3.0 with some more information, feel free to as questions there.

Posting a table to front end which allows amendment

The Fabrik 3.x demo shows a front end page with a Fabrik table ( in 3.x called a list I gather) with view and amend buttons. There is also an Add New button at the top. This seems a nicer version of the asp.net datagrid.

Can I do the same in Fabrik 2.x ? If so can someone point me at an example to show me how.

Add button is displayed if the user has access right "Add record" (Access tab in table)
Extra view and edit links per record can be enabled in the table definition.

Thanks - I now have an add button, a delete button and an empty button. And the check box appears on rhs. Checking a record allows me to delete it. Brilliant.

But, and perhaps I'm being blind, where is the edit button ? The Access tab Edit Records is set to Everyone.

And if I can add another query - how can you amend the label on an element ( so that the column heading on the table shows something different to the field name ) ? When I click the edit button I get a form which is display only - Name and Label. I want the Element: [Edit] form as the help shows.

Edit your table (backend) and enable 'Details link' and 'Edit link'.

To display a column heading different from element's label edit the element, in "Table settings" set 'Header label'.

Thanks - I now have amend buttons and amendments work !

But, sorry, I can't find "Table Settings". If I select the table and click Edit I get the Table: [Edit] page but this doesn't give element level data. And if I go into elements, select the element whose label I want to change and click edit I now get a 500 error - before I am almost certain I got a read only page with Element db name and label.

Is this the same server where you have the fabrik3 problems?
Editing an element should never show a readonly page.
Is your fabrik connection the default one using the Joomla parameters?
Can you see any JS errors?

There seem to be some serious server/installation/setup problems, you'll have to wait for the specialists:confused:

Yes this is the same hosting company and Joomla was installed by the same installation script provided by the hosting company. It's Heart Internet who have a good reputation in the UK for web site hosting and MySQL services. I've limited experience of their Joomla capabilities but so far have encountered no problems with other Joomla development.

If you tell me what makes you suspect their hosting then I'll willingly raise the issue with their technical support.

No errors appear other that those I have mentioned.

When I click edit on an element sometimes I get a page url .... /index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=element&task=edit&cid=19
This has a heading Details and two fields Name and Label both filled in and both editable - but there is no save button - so any changes you make get lost when the page is closed. Sometimes I get a 500 error instead of the page described above.

The elements help describes a page headed Element : [Edit] - I've never seen this. It also suggests you can add an element - every time I try this I get a 500 error.

There are two connections - the site database created automatically with just the db connection data host, database, password and published.

The other is a connection I have created to another MySQL db. Test connection works.

Is this the information you need when you ask ".. Fabrik connection the default one using Joomla parameters.." .?

When you say "....have to wait for the specialists.." do you mean Fabrik via this forum?

I appreciate your help on this. If it were some set up issue affecting both 3.x and 2.x then that might be a happy situation - provided we can find out what the problems are !

The unsolved problems detailed above were all solved by changing the memory limit in php5.ini to:

    memory_limit = 64M

The clue is to look at the server log files for php Memory errors - apprarently Fabrik requires 64M - often more than the default ISP setting.

This change is in the joomla site root directory. It may be necessary update the parent site as well - our ISP did this once we showed the log files with memory errors.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this solution.
