Introduction

Fabrik enables you to create your own web application forms within Joomla. You can connect to different databases*, access their Tables, make Forms, and create views of the data contained within these tables.

The main sections you will deal with in Fabrik are:

 * Connections - allows Fabrik to connect to your Joomla database and other databases.
 * Tables - define the way you display the data that is stored in your database tables.
 * Forms - define how you interact with stored data when editing existing data or adding new data.
 * Elements - define the individual pieces of data that will be stored and also how they will be displayed through your forms and tables (for example, a text box vs. a pulldown field).
 * Validations
* Validation Rules

• Please be aware that Fabrik alters your tables, so when working with foreign tables please back up your data and database schema.

Installation

Installation is through a combination of a Joomla component as well as Modules and Mambots.

There are two ways to get Fabrik:

 * Getting the Release Component
* Getting the latest development version from Subversion

The default installation contains only the component itself, the latest official release is 1.04.

People who are willing to help test the component and give feedback for the developers should try the subversion method, however there are a few hoops to jump through to use it.

Migrating from mosForms 0.4

As Fabrik is installed as a new component, we are unable to provide an upgrade path from mosForms. However, we have provided an upgrade script, which will allow you to migrate:

   * MosForm Tables, forms, groups, elements, validations & validation rules
   * Any database tables created by mosForms
   * MosForm menu items
   * MosForm Templates

To run the script, select components->fabrik from Joomla's administration menu. At the bottom of this page click on the link labelled "Migrate from mosForms 0.4 to Fabrik 1.0" to perform the migration.
