Please clarify $20 donation

Please can you clarify if the $20 donation is once off, or are we expected to pay this each time we want to download an update?

Also, for those of us using the old pro version from way back, we could get the latest from github and install manually, so where would we now be able to download and install updates manually?

the $20 donation is good for 1 year. You can download all updates at will during this time. After a year another donation is required. But you do have access to github to update from, but it won't have everything.
