• Hello Fabrik Community

Fabrik is now in the hands of the development team that brought you Fabrik for Joomla 4. We have recently transitioned the Fabrik site over to a new server and are busy trying to clean it up. We have upgraded the site to Joomla 4 and are running the latest version of Fabrik 4. We have also upgraded the Xenforo forum software to the latest version. Many of the widgets you might have been used to on the forum are no longer operational, many abandoned by the developers. We hope to bring back some of the important ones as we have time.

    Exciting times to be sure.

The Fabrik 4.0 Official release is now available. In addition, the Fabrik codebase is now available in a public repository. See the notices about these in the announcements section

We wish to shout out a very big Thank You to all of you who have made donations. They have really helped. But we can always use more...wink..wink..

Also a big Thank You to those of you who have been assisting others in the forum. This takes a very big burden off of us as we work on bugs, the website and the future of Fabrik.

I have a Joomla Q&A component that works fairly well, but I would like to extend it with a custom module that substitutes for the first page of the component, which makes the user choose some specific category, and then forwards to the usual "Ask Question' component, pre-set to the selected category. The Q&A module would then process the question and store it as per usual.

Also, I would like to further extend the component with a custom back-end for specific user class of 'Answerer' users who are qualified to pick up their category of question and supply an answer. This 'back end' module would allow them to answer questions assigned to them, (using the already working Q&A component) but will ensure that they comply with certain standards in formatting their answers ( basically, have them execute a checklist). The "answerers" would score some points depending on the completeness of their answers.

( The Q&A component already has a customizable points subsystem in place, so I would have the Fabrik 'app' interacting with that existing points table...)

So, the Fabrik 'app' would have five or six of its own tables for management of the enhanced answering process, but would be able to pass data as needed to the existing Q&A app and indeed, also to read from and write to the Q&A app's own tables as needed.

From my reading of the docs here so far, it's looking like this should all be do-able, but if any experienced users can spot a 'gotcha' that I should know about before forging ahead, I would appreciate the advice!!

Thanks In Advance :)

Definitely doable, but requires you to get to know Fabrik quite well. Also some mysql/php/javascript knowledge would be needed as it cannot probably be accomplished with using just Fabrik basic features.

Thanks! I have been doing LAMP stack programming on and off since the days of PHP3. Fabrik looks like quite a mature platform, so I'm hoping it can save me a little time over building a new Joomla component from scratch...

Fabrik is definitely a mature and very powerful component although support is nowadays community based only. But I think with this kind of experience you will probably manage well :)

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
