• Hello Fabrik Community

    Fabrik is now in the hands of the development team that brought you Fabrik for Joomla 4. We have recently transitioned the Fabrik site over to a new server and are busy trying to clean it up. We have upgraded the site to Joomla 4 and are running the latest version of Fabrik 4. We have also upgraded the Xenforo forum software to the latest version. Many of the widgets you might have been used to on the forum are no longer operational, many abandoned by the developers. We hope to bring back some of the important ones as we have time.

    Exciting times to be sure.

    The Fabrik 4.0 Official release is now available. In addition, the Fabrik codebase is now available in a public repository. See the notices about these in the announcements section

    We wish to shout out a very big Thank You to all of you who have made donations. They have really helped. But we can always use more...wink..wink..

    Also a big Thank You to those of you who have been assisting others in the forum. This takes a very big burden off of us as we work on bugs, the website and the future of Fabrik.

Auto-generate password using password plugin?

Just that - is it possible, and if so, how?

I found a thread from 5 years ago which showed the code...

Code:
$length = 10;
  $key = "";
  // define possible characters
  $possible = "0123456789bcdfghjkmnpqrstvwxyzBCDFGHJKLMNPQRTVWXYZ";
  $i = 0;
  while ($i < $length) {
    $char = substr($possible, mt_rand(0, strlen($possible)-1), 1);
      $key .= $char;
      $i++;
  }
  return $key;

...but don't know if it would work with the plugin (or where to put it).

It's not a biggie, so if it's not possible (or too much work) then I'll leave it.
Thanks :)

At what point do you want to generate the password? On form load, or on submit? Does it need to be visible to the user?

Hi Hugh :)
I have 2 forms - one is set up for volunteers to register directly (so they fill in their own password and nothing needs to be done).

The second form is completed by our staff, as these volunteers are sent by agencies and we have to register them ourselves.

So it would be a staff member registering the volunteer in this form, then there is an email sent out (using email form plugin) with the login details on submission.

As long as the password is generated and it's in the email to the volunteer, it can be generated whenever and not necessary to be visible to the staff member.

It's only really to save a bit of time on the part of the staff member having to think up and fill in a password for every agency registration.

OK, then just use a simple field element, with an eval'ed default, using that code you found. And probably set 'require password reset' in the juser plugin.

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
