Create some sort of directory

Good morning,

is it possible with fabrik to make some sort of directory / directory?

For a customer who produces handcrafted machines I should develop a sort of directory made like this:

Machine01

-chassis

-SCREW A
-BOLT A
- subframe

-sheet metal
- SCREW A
- BOLT B​

-motor

-fan
- tube A
- SCREW B​

-car body

-sheet metal
-plastic​

- cockpit

-seat
-guides
-plastic
-hook​

-etc​

and for each sub-director or element to have a series of fields in which to enter the various information.

Could it be done with fabrik? or is it better to use something else?

Yes, of course it can be done with Fabrik. You just need to plan your database structure, joins and elements properly.

Having said that, sure, there are a number of directory extensions out there, too, each one with its pros and cons. Even some e-commerce extensions can be used for it by simply not using the "commerce" features.

So, the answer is, like so often: "it depends".
The fact remains: it can be done with Fabrik and, especially if the project requires custom features and functions (which the off-the-shelf extensions don't have), it's more flexible than anything else... if you know or learn how to do it, and do it right.
