List 'Order by' using label instead of element name

I have just discovered that when you select an 'Order by' element value in a fabrik list configuration, the order uses the element's label as the sort key rather than the value of the element specified (or at least it does for a database join element).

I just hope this isn't by design. What's the point of having table indexes set up if you can't use them correctly?
