Hi,
Normally the 500 comes from redirect errors.... if you site is in a sub-folder, does the .htaccess point to that folder as the root? Or may rewite base is commented out or .htaccess is missing if using reqrites (eg RewriteBase /myfolder). If that does not help, please provide some specifics as indicated above... from what to what and what url's look like, etc.
