After latest github update, front-end access no longer works

I just updated with the latest github pull a few minutes ago, and front-end access no longer works. Access through the admin interface is working fine (including viewing data, etc).

This is the message I'm getting when I try to get to anything from the front-end:

Error: 1 - Could not connection to database

You may not be able to visit this page because of:

• an out-of-date bookmark/favourite
• a search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site
• a mistyped address
• you have no access to this page
• The requested resource was not found.
• An error has occurred while processing your request.

Strange - problem went away on its own...

Hmmm - after going away and coming back after a few hours, all of a sudden the front-end access works again. Strange, very strange. Can't explain it - maybe something with my ISP.

The PHP error I was getting when it was failing:

I had been fixing things in the connection code, so that might be related. The connections tend to be cached in the session as well, so 'going away and coming back' might well have renewed the session and thus replaced a dodgy connection with one that worked.

The php error I believe would be related to your quote mark issue in the element validations - I just replied to that thread a couple of minutes ago saying that I believe I have fixed the issue.
