Best way to debug why Fabrik contact form (email plugin) does not work?

I would like to use the Fabrik contact form rather than the Joomla build in.
But for some reason Fabrik is not sending any emails. (It’s registered in the database all-right).
Thus, my issue is the plugin being blocked somewhere from sending emails.

I have found multiple issues in old and new forums and tested some solutions – but all without luck!
(Like: access-rights to templates and categories – but I do not use templates. PHP-mail could be an issue, but I use this flawless on many other sites on my webserver).

I’m not very skilled in debugging – and found no issues related to Fabrik – but one.
Only Fabrik related error was from a 3’rd part extension “Akeeba Tools”, which needed access to “components/com_fabrik/views/form/tmpl/bootstrap/template_css.php” - now fixed.

I ‘m posting this issue in “user-to-user” as it’s not really a Fabrik issue – if Fabrik is blocked for some other reasons.
But if anyone can guide me HOW to find the reason why the Fabrik email plugin is not working – I will be very grateful.

Fabrik is using the J! settings for sending.
So, is this working? e.g new users receiving account mails?
Correct email in the email plugin? Is a hardcoded one working? A placeholder may need to use _raw?
You may disable Admintools for testing.
