CDD and database table?

I read in the wiki : "Table - the Fabrik table that we want to use for the dropdown's data"

Is it possible to use a database table?
I thought Fabrik tables were replaced by Lists in ver. 3..?

you actually use the db tables but only those that have list on it. So you have to create a Fabrik list on the db table that you intend to make used by cdd element.
