confused about updating process

hi,

after the latest update- Fabrik-fabrik-3.0b-2-g15fc2bc, done by ftp uploading/overwriting old files on the site, I found a whole bunch of fabrik updates in Extension manager > Updates.

here is what the line reads:

Fabrik element - captcha Update Plugin 3.0.0.1 fabrik_element Site http://fabrikar.com/update/fabrik/plg_element_captcha.xml
and here is the response when I try to update:
Error connecting to the server: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
Package download failed: http://fabrikar.com/media/downloads/plg_fabrik_element_captcha_3.0.0.2.zip

there are over 100 items like this
of my understanding, if this update process would work I won't need to update from github? or is this for "major" releases, and github would be for small fixes?

For a clean upgrade you can install, (within Joomla and not update by FTP), the new 3.0b.

The update process will be for major releases or effectively when new packages are made for updating.

github will still be the route for fixes.


As per a conversation with Rob there is a Joomla bug which prevents all this running as smoothly as it should. When you got into the 'update' function within Joomla it only allows you to update items on an individual basis.

so I didn't do anything wrong, I'm running the latest version (well, since yesterday, there is...) and I should just ignore the list under extensions manager > updates?

Nope you done nothing wrong.

Just ignore the updates at the moment, they are still work in progress. I know Rob performed a fair bit of work on them but I think there are still a few kinks to sort out.
