Displaying data from a table join?

I have two tables - table A and table B. When I display table A in a table format, the joined field from table B is displayed with the data of the element of table B. If I click on the Edit link, it displays the form with the drop downs for the data from table B. If I click on the View link, that form shows the id of the element, not the data; e.g. 3 vs 'Active, 2 vs 'Inactive'.

How can I have the form view display the element data in the field vs the value? BTW, newbie here. Very nice product!
