Filter database form

I am new to fabrik, I would like to do the following and if anyone can just brief me what are the steps involved ( Fabrik logic) .

I want users to query my database based on certain 'criteria' ;

1. Set user ( Visitor ) input fields / elements ( e.g Textboxes, checkboxes )
2. User submits / Filter using the above form
3. A query based on the criteria provided will fetch data
4. Data to be displayed in a tabular form , preferably without refreshing , like AJAX / PHP.

I like so far how Fabrik makes life easier handling data tables and the diverse options included.
Does the above require custom coding or are they Fabrik built-in features.
Shall I need to download / install additional plug-ins that are not included with the Fabrik 3.1b Package downloaded from Fabrikar.com ?
I am just need a quick guideline to follow.
