I just followed the cpanel instructions listed on github's wiki:

http://fabrikar.com/forums/index.php?wiki/update-from-github/

cPanel Update

If you use cPanel you'll need to do the following.

  1. Unzip the downloaded GitHub zip to you local system.
  2. Navigate to the Fabrik-fabrik-xxx folder where you see all the files and folders.
  3. Select all files and folders and create a new Zip file, (or whichever archive format you prefer).
  4. This has to be performed otherwise the files will extract to a subdirectly and your site will not get updated.
  5. Upload the NEW zip file to the root of your site.
  6. Once uploaded, refresh the directory, click on the uploaded file and select extract.
  7. Delete the ZIP file if you wish.

I did this all with this file: https://nodeload.github.com/Fabrik/fabrik/legacy.zip/master

As soon as I extracted, reloaded my website, the site went blank.

Site is testingground.lazarustechnologies.com

The backend no longer works either.

Update, turned error reporting through the configuration.php file up to maximum and the blank page now outputs the following error:

Fatal error: Class FabModel cannot extend from interface JModel in /home/johnwi6/public_html/testingground/components/com_fabrik/models/fabrik.php on line 91

I have gone in and disabled the com_fabrik folder temporarily to get the site back up and running, still however looking for a solution to what's causing this.

try updating from github - I've checked and we are not extending from JModelLegacy and not JModel in models/fabrik.php line 91 (ish)

I seem to be misunderstanding something. I was under the impression that what I did, as stated in the opening post, was update from github. If not, could you please tell me how to do so, as I seem to not quite understand how to do so ^^

I did exactly as the wiki told me to in the cpanel method of instructions as seen in the link first provided, and it caused this error to occur.

I've just attempted the same thing again in case there was an issue with the file I downloaded during it's download process, same result however, same error. I have disabled the folder again until this can be figured out.

I have looked over the wiki some more and by all possible means of my understanding, I have indeed updated from github by doing what I did. It seems either something is not working properly in the updated file, as the original file worked fine preceding the update, OR perhaps there is something in my current site combating with something in this updated file?

Joomla version is 3.0.2

Fabrik version, not sure how to check it's version, plus I've disabled the folder so I can't view all the details and if I enable it, it just crashes the site.

The file I have is this one I believe:

https://github.com/Fabrik/fabrik.git

Located on this page:

https://github.com/Fabrik/fabrik

Though I can't be positive because it looks like these files are constantly updating and I'm really not positive how this github thing works.

Well this is interesting, I went back and took the 3.1a zip file and instead of uploading it to the root directory of the website as directed, I just uploaded it via the joomla extension manager via the upload and install button.

It ran perfectly, installed the update and everything works properly now....

So the question here is, what was I doing wrong before?
