Need help designing a form

I have a form with a large number of fields, all but one of which are not required fields. I want to be able to have the one required field show up in the form, but not the rest, unless the person filling out the form clicks a link to the 'advanced' form. I would prefer that the page would not have to reload when they open the 'advanced' form, but I'm not very JS versed, so I'm not sure how to do it.

Has anyone done this or can anyone help me with this?

This is pretty much the same as another request I'm working on right now, to show / hide groups by clicking some suitable icon. I should have an example ready this evening.

Meanwhile, you can prepare by moving your optional elements into a separate group.

Just to update you on this one, I've built an example custom form template which allows hiding and showing of groups. I just need to test it a little, then I'll add a FAQ entry for it.

I'll update you again when I post that FAQ entry.
