primary key

I have a list which has a field type element (called reptile ref)which I am using as the primary key.

I want this field to be entered in the form by users however in testing if I enter a value, for example POGM01 it is being stored as '0' and not what is entered in the field.

How do I get this to work?

Apologies if this is something simple but I have very limited knowledge regarding databases.

many thanks.

You can't change the primary key - that's the whole purpose of it being there.
What's wrong with just creating another element to hold this value?

Thanks for the reply, after reading it I realized that Fabrik at present only supports Integers for primary keys so my text field will not work.

The reason I wanted to hold this as the primary key was for filtering purposes - as I said I have limited knowledge of these things and there is probably a much simpler way of doing what I want.

I will have a play and see what I come up with.

Thanks again
