Sort lists question

Is it possible to set up a text field - or another plug-in - in an element to sort lists like:

1.1
1.1.1
1.10
1.10.1

not sure, I presume that you tried and it isn't ordering in the manner you described.
If you don't need users to interact with the ordering, then you could add another element which stores the actual order as simple numbers (1,2,3,4) and order by that.

Yes you presume right - I did try but without success. I also tried to google it as a general question and it seems like a complicated thing to do, why I added an extra field as you suggests. Instead of 1,2,3 etc I use 1000, 1010, 1020 which give me possibility to ad a new record in between the existing records without having to renumber the existing records.

If you want to do it automatically you can try a calculation element (set "Calc on save only"=yes) returning a "sortable" string, e.g. by padding your numbers with 0,
0001.0001.0000
0001.0001.0001
0001.0010.0000

(you must open and re-save existing records to populate the calc element)
