View generated SQL statements

Is there a way to either echo or view somehow the generated SQL statements being sent to the database server?

in Fabrik Options/Debugging enable Fabrik debug

Then append &fabrikdebug=1 (resp. ?fabrikdebug=1 if it's the first url param) to your URL

This is on a page with a list. Same thing if I go to "View Data" in the designer component.

Yup. Click on (say) the getData row, you should see the query.

I have noticed that some templates seem to mess up our debug output, and clicking doesn't expand them. If they aren't expanding, try switching to Protostar while you debug.
