Setting up prefilters for menu item

When I try to set prefilters up the page greys out and freezes.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what I am doing wrong?

No.
Try to set it up directly in the list so you are sure you don't have a syntax error.
Check your browser console for JS error and for errors/warnings/notices in the network response.
Try an other browser.
Clear Joomla and browser cache
...

I can set up prefilters in the list
In the Console I see :JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1 - not something I have seen before.
Cleared every cache I can think of and tried another browser.

The problem appears as I click the Select button against either "Show in list" or "Prefilters"

When I do the screen greys over and freezes and I have to reload the page.

If the issue is caused by a 3rd party system plugin (it's likely it might be), just start disabling the plugins one-by-one and see if the issue goes away. That way you can find the plugin causing the problem.

Menu Pre-filters and Show in list are both using modal content, showing up in a popup on greyed out background.

So check in your page source if you have this code and what happens if you click the buttons.

One of the 3rd party stuff may break the JS or override CSS or move the popups out of the screen... (Which of the ones you list are enabled? You have for example 2 page builders)
I would start to test with JSN, "Engage box" (sounds as if it may affect popups), what is "Novarain"?

I have disabled all the system plugins that are not part of the Joomla Core - No luck
I created a new clean site and installed only Fabrik - as a result, I have now seen what the buttons should do.
On the Website in question, the buttons are not displaying the popups.

I note that after the code shown in your reply is the code

<div class="controls"><div id="attrib-jform_params_prefilters_modal" style="display:none">

Is the part I have highlighted in red significant? I suspect not.

In addition to attacking the system plugins I have been disabling complete components but that doesn't seem to help either.

Can you think of any other way I can track down whatever is blocking the modal boxes?

Many thanks for all your help!
I have "sort off" solved the problem. It is related to the template and if I turn off all the related plugins I can see the modals. Of course, I cannot see the front end of the website but I can always move it into a set it offline for the moment or two it takes to adjust Fabrik.
Once again - huge thanks!

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
