Use calc element to extract label only from link element

Can I put the php in the template instead of the calc element? If so, how would I have to code it?

Ok well I'm really not sure why but it seems the string returned by {press___headine_raw} whilst looking like json is not being decoded as such.
So rather than using the placeholder this worked for me:

return json_decode($data['press___headline_raw'])->label;
