As far as I can tell, Troester's solution would do what you want, except that the "Update" button would be at the top of the list, not the bottom. It would hide all the individual Update buttons on the individual rows, leaving only the one in the header row, which would then apply to any rows with their checkbox selected.
Which I think is what you need, yes?
