Has anyone tried or know of a working business directory using Fabrik?

I'm trying to develop something in Fabrik that could compete with SobiPro in terms of functionality.

I need to develop a business directory that has access controls, ratings, reviews, maps, joomla search integration, among many other things.

I'm just wondering if someone has already tried to being such a project.

Just recently I made simple directories, because I wanted to get rid of Sobipro. For sure I didn't build in all the functionality you mention (because it is not needed for our small village). In total I have build four directories of which each two are nearly the same. You may have a look at http://starzach.de

The following two are combining lists and forms (and an additional contact form):
http://starzach.de/rathaus/organisation/gemeinderat
http://starzach.de/rathaus/organisation/mitarbeiter

The next two can be managed by their respective owners
http://starzach.de/freizeit/vereine
http://starzach.de/wirtschaft/branchenbuch

If you need more information about details please post your questions

Btw.: for each of your mentioned features according Fabrik elements exist:
access control: user element
ratings: rating element
reviews: note element
maps: google maps element
search integration: search plugin
....

@wezetel that looks promising. Thank you for sharing as I will definitely be looking at yours as a starting point. I'm also looking to move away from sobipro eventually but I cannot find a directory extension that can do everything that I need it to do.

I guess I will start building a prototype business directory on my dev site with Fabrik and see what I can come up with. I need things like category layouts among other things.

Perhaps a project like this may be pushing the uses of Fabrik to the limits but I need an extensive and fully featured business directory for one of my main websites, it's a selling point.

Best ist really to try on a developmemt site. Fabrik has a lot of possibilities (even if sometimes you are limited and need to find a workaround).
As an example my 'Gemeinderat' directory. The council is working in various groups and I needed to describe the tasks of this groups. So I have build a list with a description field.
The individual council members are listed in a member list. In this list I defined a database join field (member___group) to the group list of type multi select.
Afterwards I included in the intro section of the groups form a statement {fabrik view=list id=xx member___group={groups___id} showfilters=0}
(xx is the member list id)
The result is, that the member list is shown above the description.

Just as a short idea how this can work...

That all sounds do-able, Fabrik has all the building blocks you need. Might need some creative work to hang them all together.
