Not sure what you mean?

Do you want to hide the "Group by" control, or are you looking for a way to show/hide groups in the list in JavaScript?

List setting, on the Data screen, Group By tab, set the "Access" to a level your users aren't a member of.

If you don't want anyone to see it, create a Viewing Access Level in J! called "Nobody" which has no groups in it, and use that. It comes in useful for several things.
