Limit database dropdown multi-select quantity?

Is there any way to limit the number of selections possible with a databasejoin multi-select?

I have a field where we only want the users to be able to select a max of 3 values from the list.

(I didn't see any element validations that might do something like this).

Any ideas?

Not built in, no. You could probably do it with some custom JS.
