Searching large text fields

I have created a database for logging 'family law' issues.
I have one field, where I put in copies of emails, contacts etc - needs to be a memo field therefore. I recall, going back as far as early Fabrik that it was easy to search these fields, but it was obviously some years ago, and can't remember the setup (was it using the built in joomla search?)
I have come back to Fabrik to keep these records I now need. I am using the latest version, and tried to setup a search field in fabrik, allowing the memo field to be searched, but as soon as I tried it it crashed the system. There are probably about 200 pages in the database only, so even that seems a bit drastic.
Anyone know of a standard way to setup this search?

Setup:
Edit your textarea element, in List view settings/Filters set what you need.
You may also set Data type = Medium Text in "Advanced" settings and maybe enable "Big selects" in Fabrik options.

Most likely issue that would "crash" the page when searching large text fields would be running out of memory. Check your php.ini, see what memory_limit is set to, if it's 128M or less, try setting it to 256M.
